FAQ

General

What is Crown?

Crown is an app that helps you understand and track your hair health. By uploading photos from multiple angles, you'll receive a detailed AI analysis of your hair condition, including health assessments, density scoring, and personalised care recommendations.

How much does Crown cost?

Crown currently offers one subscription option:

  • Weekly: $6.99 per week

Why did you create Crown?

We built Crown because we noticed thousands of people seeking objective insights about their hair health and styling choices. Getting data-driven analysis for hair care decisions is surprisingly difficult. Our AI provides an unbiased assessment to help you make informed decisions about your hair care routine.

Where is Crown available?

Crown is currently available on iOS globally. We're planning Android support soon but have no date available at this time.

When will Crown be available on Android?

Android support is in active development.

Is Crown secure?

Yes. Your photos stay local on your device except during analysis, where they are shared with our partner OpenAI and never stored by either of us. We never share or sell your photos or personal information.

Account

How do I create an account?

Crown does not require an account! It's automatically linked to your Apple ID.

Why do I need to grant camera access?

Crown requires camera access to take high-quality images of your hair from multiple angles. These photos are essential for our AI to perform an accurate analysis of your hair health.

Are my photos safe?

Absolutely. Your photos are stored using on‑device encryption. We process your images for analysis only, and they're never used to train AI models or saved.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data, including local photos, analysis history, and account information from our servers.

What happens if I revoke camera access later?

Without camera access, you won't be able to take new photos for analysis, but you can still view your previous analysis results and history. You can restore camera permissions at any time through your device settings.

The App

How does the analysis process work?

Crown guides you to take three photos: front, top, and side views of your hair. Our AI then analyzes these images to assess your hair health, evaluate density, identify potential areas of concern, and provide personalised insights about your hair care needs.

What hair conditions does Crown assess?

Crown evaluates various aspects of hair health including density, texture, overall condition, and potential areas that may benefit from targeted care. Our analysis helps you understand your hair's unique characteristics and care needs.

How accurate is the analysis?

Crown provides a highly accurate assessment based on your submitted photos. However, results are for informational purposes only and shouldn't replace professional advice from a dermatologist or hair care specialist.

Do you track analytics?

Basic usage events are sent to PostHog for anonymised product analytics. No personal identifiers or photo data are transmitted beyond what's needed for analysis.

Can I track changes over time?

Yes – Crown saves your analysis history, allowing you to track changes in your hair health over time. This helps you objectively monitor the effectiveness of your hair care routine and any improvements.

Privacy and Data

How are my photos used?

Your photos are used solely for analyzing your hair health and generating your personal assessment. They're never used for advertising, sold to third parties, or used to train AI models without explicit permission.

Does Crown store my photos in the cloud?

By default, your photos remain on your device. Our servers only process them temporarily during analysis, then discard them. Your analysis results are stored securely for your history view.

How long is my data retained?

Local photos remain until you delete them or uninstall the app. Server‑side data (analysis results, subscription information) is retained while your account is active, then purged within 30 days of account deletion.

How does PostHog integration work?

Each event is stripped of personal identifiers, batched, and transmitted over HTTPS. PostHog stores only anonymous install IDs, event names, and basic device metadata (OS version, locale, rough IP location).
